Methodology
Version 0.1 · effective 2026-08-22
Every figure on this site carries a provenance class and a published method. The two rules below bind every page from day one; the vertical index definitions that plug into them are versioned here as data ships.
Provenance classes
A figure is one of three things — recorded from a cited source, derived by a published formula, or a documented starting estimate. It is never presented as more than it is.
How these figures were produced
- Observed — Recorded directly from the cited source series, unadjusted.
- Modelled — Derived arithmetically from observed inputs using the published method; not a market quote.
- Baseline seed — A documented starting estimate awaiting first observation. Treat as an order-of-magnitude figure only.
Publishability gate (anti-doorway rule)
publishable = tierAllows(city, contentTier) AND metricsRows(city, content) > 0
Markets are tiered 1–3. Tier 1 markets carry all content; tier 2 markets carry tier 1–2 content; tier 3 markets carry anchor content only. Independently, a page must be backed by at least one real metrics row. A page that fails either test renders with a provisional banner, carries a noindex directive, and stays out of the sitemap.
The gate governs indexation, not accuracy. A page can pass the gate and still be backed by baseline seeds — which is why provenance labels exist alongside it.
Revision log
v0.1 ·
Site skeleton established on the shared network infrastructure: provenance classes and the anti-doorway publishability gate are in force. Vertical index definitions will be versioned here as the first data ships.
Method changes are versioned here. Data corrections are logged separately.
